With its large aperture and 35mm full-frame equivalent field-of-view of about 75-225mm, this lens offers the performance and focal length range comparable to the classic 70-200mm lens on a full-frame camera, but in a lighter, more compact design, making it ideal for all types of photography, including portraiture, nature, and sports.
Sigma’s proprietary optical stabilizer (OS) system allows the use of shutter speeds up to four stops slower than would otherwise be possible with handheld photos at telephoto focal lengths or in low-light environments. Six Special Low Dispersion (SLD) glass elements compensate for chromatic aberrations and provide superior image quality throughout the entire zoom range. The Super Multi-Layer Coating reduces flare and ghosting and ensures sharp, high contrast images, even in backlit conditions. An inner focusing and inner zooming system provide convenient handling, while the Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) ensures quiet, high-speed autofocus; it also allows full-time manual focus override. The rounded nine-blade diaphragm creates an attractive blur to the out of focus areas of an image.
The 50-150mm F2.8 EX DC APO OS HSM lens is fully compatible with Sigma’s 1.4x EX DG and 2x EX DG teleconverters, which can be used to extend the range of the lens to produce a 70-210mm F4 or 100-300mm F5.6 autofocus telephoto zoom, respectively.
