Gentec introduces the new Sigma 17-70mm F2.8-4 DC MACRO OS HSM zoom lens with optical stabilizer

Wednesday December 23, 2009

Gentec International is pleased to announce the new Sigma 17-70mm F2.8-4 DC MACRO OS HSM. This large aperture standard zoom lens now includes Sigma’s optical stabilization (OS) function, making it an even more versatile lens for many applications, including portraits, sports, macro, and general photography.

The optical stabilizer allows the use of handheld shutter speeds approximately four stops slower than would otherwise be possible. For Sony and Pentax users, the built-in OS function of this lens can be used even if their camera body is equipped with an anti-shake function. Using the OS function on the lens instead of the camera’s anti-shake function makes the compensation for camera shake visible in the viewfinder, allowing Sony and Pentax users to easily check for accurate focus and ensure there is no subject movement.

The maximum aperture of F2.8 improves autofocus speed and, with the rounded seven-blade diaphragm, creates an attractive background blur. This lens allows a minimum focusing distance of 22 cm throughout the entire zoom range and offers a maximum magnification ratio of 1:2.7, making it ideal for close-up photography.

Three aspherical lenses and one Extraordinary Low Dispersion (ELD) glass element provide excellent correction for all types of aberrations; high image quality is assured throughout the entire zoom range. Sigma’s Super Multi-Layer Coating reduces flare and ghosting to provide high contrast images. The incorporation of a Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) ensures quiet, high-speed auto focus with full-time manual focusing capability. The inner focusing system eliminates front lens rotation, making the lens suitable for use with circular polarizing filters and the supplied petal-type lens hood.

The suggested retail price of the Sigma 17-70mm F2.8-4 DC MACRO OS HSM lens is $599.95.

About Sigma DC Lenses

Designed specifically for digital SLR cameras, Sigma’s DC lenses are distinguished by a smaller image circle designed to match the APS-C sensor size of most digital SLR cameras. Reduction of the image circle diameter also makes it possible to reduce the size and weight of the lens, improving its handling characteristics. Compact and lightweight, DC lenses combine Sigma’s advanced lens technology with current digital imaging technology, making them essential equipment for today’s state-of-the-art digital SLR cameras.
